The problem
Women and girls in the West Nile borderlands face high levels of sexual and gender-based violence, driven by poverty, displacement, and economic dependence that traps many survivors in abusive relationships and unsafe cross-border trade environments.
What Zoota does
Zoota empowers survivors through rights-based advocacy, community dialogue, and economic empowerment. Through our STEMES Project, we are currently skilling 150 teenage mothers and survivors of GBV with livelihood skills so they can earn income and safely leave abusive relationships. We have also reached over 300 women and girls with rights education and GBV prevention, including work with women traders in cross-border markets.
The result
Women and girls gain income, protection, and the confidence to stand against violence, enabling them to leave abusive situations, trade more safely, and live with dignity and independence.
